How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost? An Honest Breakdown
October 21, 20261 min read4 sections

The short version
The real line items behind a small business website — domain, hosting, design, maintenance, and changes — with example yearly totals.
01
The five line items
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Domain | Your web address, renewed yearly. |
| Hosting | The server that keeps your site online. |
| Design and build | The one-time work to create the site. |
| Maintenance | Security updates, backups, fixing what breaks. |
| Changes | New photos, prices, pages, and hours. |
02
Where costs hide
Maintenance and changes are the line items people forget. A cheap build becomes expensive when every update is billed separately or the site is left unpatched.
03
A worked example with Proximent
- Setup: $350 (or $450 for larger builds), paid once after you approve the prototype.
- Monthly: $20 × 12 = $240 per year, covering hosting, security, maintenance, and up to 10 changes a month.
- Domain: included when available under $50 per year.
First year: $590–$690. Each year after: $240.
